Function of the uterus

The cervix serves on the one hand the function of the passage of the sperm into the uterus (uterus) and on the other hand it ensures the closure of the uterus (uterus) during the pregnancy. It also protects against infections rising from the vagina into the uterus. Usually the outer one is cervix filled with a plug of mucus. The amount and consistency of this Schleipfropfs depends on the hormonal influences at the respective point in time of the menstrual cycle.

The body of the uterus houses the unborn child during pregnancy. In the case of pregnancy, the germ is nested in the lining of the uterine body. The mucous membrane of the non-pregnant woman is subject to puberty one usually 28 days Menstrual cycle and changes steadily within this time under the influence of hormones.

The muscle layer of the body of the uterus is very thick and has muscles arranged in a spiral. This is very useful, as the muscles, when they contract (contract) during childbirth, direct the unborn child towards the vagina with rhythmic waves and thus determine the birth path.
