A. Still did not believe that the osteopathic treatments were any reason for his patients to recover. Basically the body heals itself. The therapy only activates and stimulates the self-healing powers. In addition, an existing symptom is not always the source of the complaint. Kidney infection can limit the mobility of the lumbar spine, which the cervical spine tries to balance. If left untreated, this in turn can lead to disc problems (herniated disc) in this area in the long run. The trained osteopath treats the lumbar spine here so that the cervical spine can recover.
A treatment lasts 45-75 minutes on average. Acute problems show clear improvements after one or two sessions, chronic ailments require more time. Initially, the treatment is carried out on a weekly basis, later every 2-3 weeks. Osteopathy can be used on its own or as an adjunct therapy. The costs are not covered by the statutory health insurance. A session costs around 80 euros on average.

Despite this wide list of indications, osteopathy also has its limits. According to the osteopathic view, it cannot help where there are not enough self-healing powers, such as with Broken bones, Infections, cancer or Tumors. In addition, it is not an emergency medicine, such as for treating one Heart attack. Body structure that has already been damaged should not be further damaged by further excessive manipulation. Therefore, a differential diagnosis and a detailed examination are all the more important.
