During one Lent numerous biochemical and physiological processes occur in the body. This could result in fewer antibodies being produced and the immune system weakened increasingly. However, since fewer pathogens enter the body at the same time, this effect does not seem to be far-reaching. The burning of proteins is also partly attributed to stimulating the microbiological circulation.
The same effect is ascribed to the dehydration that takes place during Lent. Not only should the toxins in the body be transported out of the body in this way, but also here the microbiological circulation should be stimulated and thus the immune system and other healthy metabolic processes in the body should be stimulated again. Numerous hormonal changes can be seen during the fast. The exact effects of these changes have not yet been adequately researched scientifically. The hormonal changes include: reduction in thyroid hormones, ACTH and cortisone reduction, endorphin reduction, reduction in the amount of insulin in the blood and insulin production, reduction in estrogen production.
