introduction

The upper arm spoke muscle (musculus brachioradialis) is another powerful flexor of the elbow joint. It runs along the middle of the forearm with its strong, slender muscle belly. The upper arm spoke muscle forms the predominant part of the forearm muscles located towards the thumb. It represents the anatomical boundary between the flexor and extensor muscles of the forearm.

Insertion / origin / innervation

Approach: Stylus process of the spoke (Processus styloideus radii)

Origin: Lateral edge of the humerus (Margo lateralis humeri)

Innervation: Radialnerv (Radial nerve)

function

The upper arm spoke muscle (musculus brachioradialis) has a long lever arm and is therefore a so-called load flexor of the elbow joint. If the other upper arm flexors take on the function of speed flexors, then it fulfills brachioradialis the function of bearing loads with a pronated arm.
