Proff® pain cream for osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis is a joint disease that is very common in old age and is associated with severe pain, swollen joints and restricted mobility.

Usually smaller joints of the fingers and hands, knees or hips are affected, but in general every joint can show osteoarthritis.

The destruction of the cartilage layer slowly leads to chronic inflammation of the joints with pain and swelling. Proff® pain cream is suitable for use in osteoarthritis and has a pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory effect thanks to the active ingredient ibuprofen.

ingredients

As the name suggests, Proff® pain cream contains the active ingredient ibuprofen in an oil / water emulsion.
Ibuprofen is a drug from the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).

It has analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects and is also used in tablet form to treat fever. When used on the skin, it is absorbed into the organism to a much lesser extent, but acts primarily below the application site.

Proff® pain cream is alcohol-free and skin-friendly, and its oil content also protects the skin from drying out.

In addition, proff® pain cream contains the preservative ethyl 4-hydroxybenzoate sodium and propylene glycol. If you are known to be hypersensitive to the active ingredient or the other ingredients, proff® pain cream must not be used.

effect

Ibuprofen is a drug from the group of pain relievers and anti-inflammatory drugs.
By inhibiting enzymes that release inflammation-mediating tissue hormones (so-called prostaglandins), ibuprofen inhibits inflammation, has an analgesic and fever-lowering effect.

When taken orally, ibuprofen affects the lining of the stomach and can damage it. The theory behind the use as a cream is a locally increased intake, which is associated with fewer systemic side effects, such as an increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. The concentration of the active ingredient is increased at the application site, which unfolds the effect on inflamed or swollen joints. proff® pain cream has a targeted analgesic and anti-inflammatory effect and is well tolerated by the skin for rheumatism, osteoarthritis and muscle and joint problems.

dosage

The cream is used three to four times a day.
Depending on the affected joint or painful area, a strand of cream a few centimeters long should be applied, which corresponds to between 2 and 5 g of cream.

Proff® pain cream is rubbed in lightly. In the event of bruises and sprains, an ointment bandage with proff® pain cream can be applied.

The cream is usually used for between two and three weeks.

Side effects

When using proff® pain cream, local skin reactions can often occur, which can be accompanied by redness, itching, burning or rashes.

Hypersensitivity reactions such as rashes are possible, and narrowing of the airways can occur very rarely.

Side effects on organ systems that occur with the systemic use of ibuprofen cannot be ruled out if proff® pain cream is applied over a large area and over a longer period of time.

However, the rate of absorption through the skin is very low at around 5%.

Propylene glycol, which is also one of the ingredients, can cause skin irritation.

Interactions

So far, no interactions between the local application of proff® pain cream and other drugs are known.

Proff® pain cream should always be applied to healthy, uninjured skin.

Is that compatible with alcohol?

So far there is no evidence of an interaction between proff® pain cream and alcohol consumption.

The active ingredient ibuprofen only has a minor systemic effect, so no interactions are to be expected with correct use and moderate alcohol consumption.
