Symptoms of facet syndrome

Symptoms

The ailments caused by a Facet syndrome are varied and not very characteristic. This makes the diagnosis of facet syndrome extremely difficult. Since it is a degenerative disease, other diseases usually play a role in the pain process, such as the Band washers, Muscles or ligaments play a role.

Contrary to the symptoms of one Disc prolapse, which occurs in the same position and causes the same, reproducible complaints in different people (e.g. Reflex failure, paralysis, sensory disturbances), facet syndrome, even if it concerns the same section of the spine, can have different symptoms in different people (Symptoms) cause.

Still, there are some distinctive features Symptomsthat suggest the presence of facet syndrome. This includes:

  • Deep back pain (lumbago), the v.a. increases during exercise and during the day and improves when lying down. A lumbago is usually an acute event based on a change in wear and tear Spine.
  • Dull pain that is difficult to describe
  • Restriction of movement of the Lumbar spine (morning stiffness).
  • Back pain with radiation to the buttocks, groin and / or legs, whereby the pain rarely radiates to the knee joint region (pseudoradicular radiation) and cannot be assigned to any nerve root (Root syndrome; radicular appearance).
  • Back pain worse than leg pain (as opposed to a herniated disc).
  • Pain intensification when the trunk is reclining (bending back).
  • Suspension pain over the vertebral joints.
  • Back pain when lifting the stretched leg while lying down.
  • Sensory disturbances (hypoesthesia) or paresthesia (paresthesia) of the legs can occur (e.g. burning, pins and needles, feeling cold), but are less common.
  • Muscle tension

All of the above symptoms are more or less typical and may or may not appear in facet syndrome. Some of these symptoms can also be in the foreground.

But now enough is indicated ;-)

The spine is difficult to treat. On the one hand it is exposed to high mechanical loads, on the other hand it has great mobility.

The treatment of the spine (e.g. herniated disc, facet syndrome, foramen stenosis, etc.) therefore requires a lot of experience.
I focus on a wide variety of diseases of the spine.
The aim of any treatment is treatment without surgery.

Which therapy achieves the best results in the long term can only be determined after looking at all of the information (Examination, X-ray, ultrasound, MRI, etc.) be assessed.
