Concor®

Synonyms in a broader sense

  • Beta-blockers
  • Beta adrenergic blockers
  • β-blockers

Working principle

Beta blockers (Concor®) used as blood pressure medication influence the level of blood pressure in various ways. They attack the heart as well as the central one, the vessels and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.
In all cases they inhibit beta receptors. In the heart, this inhibition causes the heart rate and stroke volume (Amount of blood ejected per heartbeat) and the associated blood pressure is lowered as a result.
In turn, the beta-blockers affect the vascular tension (tone) in the vessels. By widening the vessels, the vascular resistance decreases, which also causes a lowering of the blood pressure.
In addition, these blood pressure medication prevents the release of the enzyme renin, which is at the beginning of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. Ultimately, there is less angiotensin II available (see ACE inhibitors) and blood pressure decreases.
Finally, the beta blockers also have a central effect on the level of blood pressure. They lower the sympathetic nervous system (part of the autonomic nervous system) and thereby also the resistance of the vessels, which is regulated by the central sympathetic nervous system, among other things.
All of the principles mentioned have a synergistic effect on the level of blood pressure and together cause it to decrease.

Side effects

over impotence, Muscle weakness, fatigue, sleep disorders, malaise and nausea patients who take beta-blockers may complain. In addition, the heart rate may decrease (Bradycardia) as well as the Blood sugar level (Hypoglycemia). Also an increase in certain Blood lipids (Hyperlipidemia) is possible when taking these blood pressure medication.

Interactions

Concor® in combination with Antiarrhythmics or Cardiac glycosides cause a decreased heart rate (Bradycardia) up to a blockade of the conduction of excitation (AV block).
There are also interactions with other antihypertensive agents; the decrease in pressure is amplified.
Interactions of Concor® with oral antidiabetic agents as well as with insulin express themselves in increased Hypoglycaemia (Hypoglycemia).
If beta mimetics are taken at the same time, their effect is canceled out by the beta blockers.

application areas

Concor® is used, among other things, to treat high blood pressure, Angina pectoris, coronary artery disease and chronic heart failure (chronic heart failure) used.

Contraindications

Should not be ingested Concor® in certain diseases of the heart. Specifically, these include Bradycardia (Heart rate below 50 per minute), decompensated and acute heart failure (Heart failure) or higher grade AV block (Conduction disorder).
Furthermore, these blood pressure medications are in place bronchial asthma (Respiratory disease) just like shock contraindicated.
