Fruit acid treatment
What is a fruit acid treatment?
A fruit acid treatment is carried out with the aim of improving the complexion. The fruit acid peelings usually contain one or more glycolic acids that penetrate the top layers of the skin and remove dead skin cells. The aim of a fruit acid treatment is to stimulate the skin's renewal processes, refine the pores and improve the structure of the skin.
For whom does fruit acid treatment make sense?
A fruit acid treatment can be used for blemished skin, pimples, acne, wrinkles, scars or pigment spots. The goal is to reduce skin problems so that the skin appears more even.
Low-concentration fruit acid preparations are available in drugstores, while beauticians or dermatologists provide extensive advice and adjust the fruit acid concentration to the respective skin type.
It is advisable to seek advice from a beautician or dermatologist as to whether a fruit acid treatment makes sense and how it should be carried out. Often a fruit acid treatment is carried out over several weeks. In addition, a pre-treatment with a fruit acid cream may be necessary so that the fruit acid treatment with a fruit acid peel has a better effect.
It should be noted that a fruit acid treatment should not be used on very thin and dry skin.
What forms are there?
Fruit acid peelings or fruit acid creams are mainly used. Often a pre-treatment with a fruit acid cream is carried out and then a fruit acid peel is carried out once or twice a week for a period of about four weeks.
Fruit acid peeling
Fruit acid peelings are available in a low concentration in the drugstore or in a customized concentration from a beautician or dermatologist. Typically, a fruit acid peel is performed once or twice a week for about four weeks. The exposure time is about 5-20 minutes and is determined individually. It is advisable to seek advice from a beautician or dermatologist in order to be able to plan the fruit acid treatment individually and to use the right products.

Fruit acid cream
Fruit acid creams are often used in a one to two week pretreatment before the fruit acid peelings are used.
Fruit acid creams can also be used without the subsequent treatment of a fruit acid peel. It should be noted that the skin should be cared for with a cream (e.g. with panthenol) after using fruit acid creams. In addition, one should avoid UV radiation from the sun or solariums during the application.

How does a fruit acid treatment work?
A fruit acid treatment can be carried out by a beautician or a dermatologist, but it can also be used independently with products from the drugstore at home.
It is advisable to seek advice from a beautician and doctor about which mixtures and products are suitable for you. First a skin analysis is done. Here the moisture, the pH value and the fat content are determined. The beautician or doctor decides which concentrations and mixtures of the fruit acids will be used. Then the skin is pretreated. This means that the skin is primarily cleaned. This is followed by the actual fruit acid treatment. This can last about five to 20 minutes, depending on the exposure time. The fruit acid is then neutralized and washed off. The skin then needs a few days to regenerate. During this time (at least three days) you should avoid the sun, not go to the solarium and use sun protection if necessary.
Are there any side effects to be expected?
Fruit acid treatments are generally low in side effects. After a fruit acid treatment, you may experience slight reddening of the skin or a burning sensation. Skin problems can also temporarily worsen. Afterwards, however, these should improve again. In rare cases, an allergic reaction to the fruit acids can occur. Otherwise no side effects are to be expected.
How long does a fruit acid treatment take?
If a beautician or dermatologist carries out the fruit acid treatment, you should plan around 30 to 45 minutes per session. The actual treatment with the fruit acid preparation takes about 5 to 20 minutes. The exposure time is determined individually in a previous skin analysis.
Typically, one to two treatments per week are performed over a period of approximately four weeks.
How often can you have a fruit acid treatment?
A fruit acid treatment can be carried out as often as desired. In the event of severe reddening of the skin or a burning sensation, the further procedure should be discussed with a doctor or beautician. In the event of allergic reactions, the fruit acid treatment should be stopped.
What does a fruit acid treatment cost?
For a treatment you usually have to reckon with 60 to 150 euros from a beautician or dermatologist. The independent use of creams from the drugstore is usually much cheaper, but only creams in lower concentrations are available here.
Does the health insurance company cover the costs?
Statutory health insurance does not cover the cost of a fruit acid treatment by a doctor or beautician.Privately insured persons should find out from their health insurance company whether they will bear the costs for a fruit acid treatment. As a rule, however, the costs are not reimbursed, as the indication is purely cosmetic.
