Akineton

Akineton® is a drug that is often used for Parkinson's disease and for the so-called "extrapyramidal disorders“Is used. Extrapyramidal side effects are a type of movement disorder that can be caused by drugs, among other things. Akineton® is the trade name.

The active ingredient is called Biperiden and belongs to the group of anticholinergics.

Ingestion

The dosage form of Akineton® are prolonged-release tablets or normal tablets. Retard means that the tablets release their active ingredient with a delay.

Akineton® has shown good effectiveness in studies for the following symptoms / diseases and has been used for many years:

  • Parkinson's

The tablets require a prescription and are usually only prescribed for adults.

dosage

Side effects

Side effects in combination with other drugs

Different drugs often influence each other. If you are also taking other drugs for Parkinson's disease, such as Levodopa, movement disorders can occur. Taking other psychotropic drugs, for example for depression, can also lead to movement disorders.

Even with allergy drugs (antihistamines), Neuroleptics and metoclopramide, increased side effects may occur. Hence, it is important that you tell your doctor about any medication you are taking.

Overdose

In case you have too large an amount of Akineton please clarify this with your doctor immediately. High doses can have side effects. They are described under side effects.

If you forget to take a dose, do not worry. Do not take a double amount as compensation, but take your tablets as usual.

Contraindication

Akineton must not be taken if you suffer from the following diseases:
