Abdominal hair
General
The term abdominal hair refers to the hair that is in the area of the abdomen. There are three types of hair in humans:
- Lanugo hair
- Vellus hair
- Terminal hair.
Two of these types of hair can occur on the abdomen, namely both vellus and terminal hair.
In humans, the majority of body hair, including the hair on the abdomen, consists of the unpigmented, soft, thin vellus hair. These hairs cover the body from birth. During puberty, due to the hormonal change, some vellus hairs transform into thicker, harder, pigmented terminal hair, which is one of the secondary sexual characteristics. In men, as part of this development, terminal hairs sometimes develop on the abdomen during late puberty under the influence of androgens such as testosterone.
Hair pattern and extent
The typical hair pattern takes its Origin on the lower sternum and then go from there towards the navel, at the same time hair growth begins in the pubic area and also moves towards the navel.
The amount of hair varies from person to person strong and above all depending on the hormone levels in the blood and from an individual genetic predisposition. This is why some men have almost no terminal hair on their stomach, while others have very pronounced hair. All of this is considered normal.
The presence of abdominal hair is unusual in women, but it can be within certain limits hormonal disorders also occur once.
Removal of abdominal hair
Nowadays, a lot of body hair on most places, including the stomach, is unpopular with most people, the ideal of beauty is increasingly defined by a hairless body. Hence it happens that more and more men remove their abdominal hair want to.
As with other hair, the easiest way to do this is by using one shaveusing a classic wet shave or by one Body hair trimmer can be done. The advantage is that this is simple, inexpensive and can be done by anyone, the disadvantage is the short duration of the desired state. Depending on the speed of hair growth, you have to shave again after 1 to 3 days in order not to have any visible hair on your stomach. In addition, people with sensitive skin often react to a wet shave slight allergic reactions.
An alternative is the depilatory cream. This is slightly more expensive, but the result also lasts longer. On average, new stubble reappears after 3 days at the earliest and these are usually softer and finer than their predecessors.
Probably the most effective, but also the most complex and expensive option for hair removal on the abdomen is treatment by a dermatologist or beautician with IPL (intense pulsed light). Here you make use of pulsed light, which is similar to a laser, with which you can destroy the hair roots. The consequence of this is that the hair in the irradiated area falls out and, if at all, only grows back much later, thinner and softer. This requires several sessions, depending on the skin type, the stomach is usually hair-free after an average of 7 appointments.
In addition to the abdominal hair removal methods mentioned above, which are all painless, provided there are no complications, the hair can also be epilated, plucked or grown, which leads to good and even longer-term results than shaving, but sometimes severe pain can cause.
