Plant description
In the Andes of Bolivia and Peru this shrub grows sandy locations. The leaves are long and pointed and on both sides yellowish-white hairy. Form from the red flowers prickly fruits which contain only one seed.
Plant parts used medicinally
The root. One digs the fist-thick roots of wild plants, washes and dries she. The wood of the root is odorless and tasteless, the rind tastes astringent.

Medicinal effect and application
The drug works contracting and anti-inflammatory. Mainly used for inflammation of the Mucous membrane in the mouth and throat but also in Stomach and intestines. Mostly traded as a tincture.
preparation
One can tea prepare from: ½ teaspoon dried rattan is made with ¼ l of boiling water poured over, 15 minutes let it steep, strain. Use unsweetened for gargling.
Side effects
Side effects are at normal dosage nothing to fear.
