Vibration plate

Which vibration devices / vibration plates are there?

There are so-called Vertical plates offered in which the training area is in different frequency ranges moves up and down.

In rehabilitation, side-alternating systems (rocker function) are predominantly used, in which the training surfaces swing like a rocker.

The practitioner stands either with both or one leg on the rocking vibration bar, which alternately brings the right or left foot up, or sits e.g. with a foam cushion on the plate. Another possibility is to support your arms on the plate or stand across the training surface.

This Vibrating plates with rocking function when used while standing, stimulate the Musculature rhythmically alternating between right and left as when walking or running, as well as alternating tension in the activity of agonist and antagonist. (Antagonist = muscle that relaxes while the agonist - the acting muscle - performs a movement or holding work). There is a constant change between concentric (moving muscle function) and eccentric (holding muscle function) muscle work. Both forms of muscle work are necessary for all everyday functions such as movement and holding work (e.g. walking, running, stairs).

There are also devices where both Vibrating bar systems (Vertical and horizontal system) can be selected, but the available frequency range is limited.

In the meantime, small, functional and correspondingly cheaper vibration plates are offered for domestic use, which are useful for chronically ill people (e.g. Muscle weakness or osteoporosis) can be used.

Mechanisms of action of vibration training:

A variety of studies have been carried out over the past 20 years that demonstrate the positive effects of the Whole body vibration training on Musculature, bone and cover vessels.

However, the research on the effects of whole-body vibration training is not complete, partly contradicting itself and requires further observation.

The more precise detection and verifiability of the specific mode of action is necessary above all for the methodical further development of the training and as an evidence base.

False promises

In Gyms Excessive or even incorrect information about the mode of action is very often given for advertising purposes. These range from "top figure in a hurry" to cellulite killer.

Which training parameters of the vibration plate can be changed?

The desired effect of vibration training can be achieved by changing the training parameters.

Which training parameters can be changed?

  • Frequency range (variable between 5 and 30hz, 1hz = 1 oscillation / sec.)
  • Vibration amplitude (step position larger, smaller, across or lengthways)
  • Starting position on the plate (standing, sitting, supporting with the arms)
  • Time and sequence of training
  • Frequency of training
  • Exercise selection during vibration
