Aggrenox® contains the antiplatelet agents

  • Dipyridamole and
  • Acetylsalicylic acid.

These active substances reduce blood clotting or the clumping of blood platelets, which can reduce the risk of a stroke.

Areas of application

Aggrenox® will be used in patients who already have one stroke have suffered for prevention other strokes used.

Mode of action

How to use

Aggrenox® is in the form of Capsules Taken twice a day, mostly morning and evening.

Side effects

As a result of taking Aggrenox® can occur:

  • stomach pain,
  • nausea,
  • a headache and dizziness occur.

A sudden drop in blood pressure can also occur. With an existing bronchial asthma or at gout, can Aggrenox® trigger another seizure.

Interactions

The taking of Aggrenox® is associated with an increased blood concentration of adenosine. With simultaneous drug administration of adenosine this results in a Drop in blood pressure.

Due to the anticoagulant effect of Aggrenox®, performs a parallel therapy with anticoagulant drugs such as, for example Heparin or Coumarin derivativesn to an increased Risk of bleeding.
The same risk exists when taking certain ones Antidepressants (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, SSRIs), cortisone or cortisone-like substances and non-steroidal ones Anti-inflammatory drugs as well as after Alcohol consumption.

In combination with Anti-diabetics the risk of hypoglycaemia increases.

Also has Aggrenox® an intensifying influence on the cancer drug Methotrexate, on the Antibiotics Trimethoprine and sulfonamides, the thyroid hormone triiodothyronine and the epilepsy drug valproic acid.

Has an inhibiting effect Aggrenox® on the other hand, on cholinesterase inhibitors, which may result in an existing one Myasthenia gravis (severe muscle weakness) is intensified, as well as the Dehydrating agent Spironolactone, on loop diuretics, and certain medicines for gout.

Contraindications

Aggrenox® must not be taken if a Hypersensitivity against Acetylsalicylic acid or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs consists.
