It contains:

- Iridoids
and - Valeric acid and its derivatives.
Nervousness and sleep disorders are verifiably alleviated. Nocturnal waking phases decrease when taking an alcoholic valerian extract at a daily dose of 400 to 900 mg. The intake period must last at least 10 to 14 days.

The active ingredients of valerian presumably influence the metabolic activity of the Neurons. After taking valerian, the sleep-promoting effect only begins slowly.
The first successes can be seen after 5 to 14 days at the earliest. After a long period of use, which lasts over 4 weeks and is high-dose, the dose of valerian must be slowly reduced again.
Dosage form
The valerian root is most often used as a ready-made preparation (in the form of

- Dragees.
The daily dose should correspond to 2 to 3 g of dried valerian roots.
Tea preparations can also be used for internal use. For example, 150 ml of boiling water is poured over a teaspoon of valerian roots. The tea is strained and drunk about an hour before going to bed.
The valerian tea guarantees a better sleep. In addition, a valerian bath provides relaxation and calming (especially for muscle tension).
For the bath additive, take 75 to 100 g of valerian roots and pour 2 liters of boiling water over them. After 10 to 15 minutes, strain and put in the bath water.
